So what's up with me? Some Wenger facts for starters

So I upset half of the Arsenal supporters on this continent in my blog this week by declaring that manager Arsene Wenger was ruining Arsenal.

It’s saddening to see that the argument that most fans had and still have; is that Wenger is the most successful manager at Arsenal. Gee guys!

I give him a little credit for winning the FA Cup last season but when was the last time he won the prestigious league title; heck he has never won the Champions League.

A club of Arsenal’s profile to have never won the Champions League and to have only reached one final is shameful.

We are the Arsenal! We spend our days making fun of Liverpool when they slip up and rub in the fact that they have never won a Premier League Trophy; but they’ve won the continental gig five times.

Yes FIVE times! Roberto Martinez with Wigan in 2013 and Harry Redknapp with Portsmouth in 2008 have both won the FA Cup in recent years. Wenger with Arsenal needed nine years to reclaim it; nine years in which he won nothing else. Does Wenger deserve a place in Arsenal’s history.

Of course he does! Three League titles and five FA Cups is very impressive; but somewhere along the way he lost his way. He assembled a great squad at the turn of the century but has failed miserably to put together another set of great footballers.

He has always had a couple of world class players, but has failed to have a team where all positions are adequately covered.

Compare him with Jose Mourinho for instance, who has managed to put together several great teams and employ tactics that saw him win the Champions League with underdogs like Porto.

Inter Milan may not have had the best squad in the 2009/2010 season, but Mourinho won the Champions League with them because of his tactics; dirty or not; they worked!

The other argument I got from Arsenal fans is that I needed to understand the business of football and applaud Wenger for keeping the balance sheet looking good.

Really? I don’t have shares in Arsenal Football Club! And the only reason why I would like my team to make money is so that they could spend it to get the best players or pay decent salaries.

Heck! I’m a fan in Africa! Why honestly would I care about the balance sheet as long as we don’t go bankrupt and find ourselves suffering like Rangers in the Scottish League?

But we’re far from that. I support Arsenal to see them win trophies, not to see some Russian and English shareholders make money! That doesn’t interest me!

Let’s get real fellow Gunners and begin to demand excellence from our club. I’m sick of the “top four trophy” but looking at the squad right now and the tactics Wenger is employing, we’ll be lucky to even get that this season.
