Arsenal Vs Man City, today 2:45pm
My Prediction: Gunners.. 2 The Citizens... 2
I think every Premier League manager is a little mad at what happened during the Euro qualifiers because players have been reporting back to their clubs with injuries. Although Aaron Ramsey faces a late fitness test to play in this game, he may not be at his 100% form for such a crucial tie. Defending Champions Man City are obviously title contenders, not just because they won the league last year but they have been playing some magical football.
Okay perhaps it wasn’t so magical going into the international break given that they lost 1-0 to Stoke City, but it would take a miracle for City to lose two games in a row. Yes, I’m a Gunner and I’m admitting that. But maybe, just maybe a miracle will happen today and Danny Welbeck, yes Danny Welbeck could rescue at a point for the Gunners. Welbeck, not-100%-fit Ramsey and Cazorla are most likely the source of our goals today, and so I’m sorry my fellow Gunners if I’m about to predict a draw here. Goals will definitely be scored on both ends. City also had players who returned with international knocks but defender Pablo Zabaleta is confident that he will play. Stevan Jovetic, however, is a hamstring situation so he’s very unlikely to play any time soon. Maybe a miracle will happen and Arsenal will win but I’m betting on a draw.
Chelsea Vs Swansea, today 5pm
My Prediction: Blues...2 Swans... 2
You would expect me to rant and rant about Chelsea here and predict some level of a walk-over; but Swansea are the only team apart from Chelsea that has a 100% record in the league so far. And it’s not like they’ve played easy opposition; or am I giving Manchester United too much credit? Swansea shocked every critic in the league when they came out victorious over Louis Van Gaal’s men on opening day. They went on to get maximum points against Burnley and wrapped it up with a 3-0 victory over West Brom last time out with Nathan Dyer getting a brace in that last game. But could manager Garry Monk be letting their performance get to his head. He was opening critical of Roy Hodgson for not making his English trio of Dyer, Wayne Routledge and Jonjo Shelvey part of his England squad, saying the Swansea team should be the blueprint for England. He may be right but I would like to see how his Englishmen rate against Jose Mourinho’s charges. Jose’s boys have won all their games but their biggest test was their last outing— a 6-3 defeat of Everton at Goodison Park. Even though the Blues walked away with the three points, the Toffees exposed their defense which can be broke. And today Swansea’s attack may just penetrate it.
Liverpool Vs Aston, today, 7:30pm
My Prediction: Reds 1 Villagers...1
Daniel Sturridge has come back from international duty with an injury that’s likely to keep him out for three weeks and Brendan Rodgers is livid! Raving mad! He says quick players like Sturridge, Raheem Sterling and Danny Welbeck in the England squad need more than 48 hours rest before they take up serious training again. Sturridge had played 89 minutes in England’s friendly with Norway and was in serious training just 36 hours later when he picked up his injury. So the fear is legitimate. Rodgers now has to ask Mario Balotelli to step up to the plate and begin to score some goals for his club. Liverpool season has been pretty good until now. Even though they struggled to beat Southampton on the opening weekend and lost to Manchester City after that; they were convincing in their 3-0 smashing of Tottenham two weeks ago. Aston Villa though have done one better, beating Stoke, drawing with Newcastle before clinching all three points in the clash against Hull City. Villa believe it or not are third on the log while the Reds are 5th. Normalcy has to return to the league but this will be a tough one for both clubs. I trust Balotelli will rise up to the occasion but Villa will match them.
Manchester United Vs QPR, tomorrow 6pm
My Prediction: Red Devils...2 QPR....1
If Manchester United fail to get maximum points here, I will even begin to shout LVG must go! Man United have a loss to Swansea under their belts and two draws against Sunderland and Burnley; very uninspiring teams. In fact LVG is yet to get a league win with United. During the two week break though, he did bring in Radamel Falcao while defender Marcos Rojo has finally got his papers sorted out. That said; I don’t believe a team with Wayne Rooney and RVP both fit and playing can say a forward like Falcao will make all the difference. Rojo, however, does add some hope at the back for the Red Devils. I honestly don’t know what to expect from them but I do realise that every time I have predicted a win for them, they’ve lost. QPR beat Sunderland in their last outings, but embarrassing losses to Tottenham and Hull City left them with just three points. So early in the season, there is barely any predicting to do; so I’ll just guess.
