Lesotho Vs Kenya, Tomorrow
My Prediction: Lesotho..1 Harambee Stars..1
So Kenya has risen in the Fifa World rankings to 95 and our national federation is so proud of this. I am too, to some extent. I say to some extent because of the reason why we improved.
Kenya has played just three international matches this year. A home and away qualifier against Comoros which we won at home but drew away; and this week’s home draw against Burundi.
But teams which were ahead of us in the Fifa rankings lost their matches and that is why we improved in our ranking. Comoros is a weak team in the scale of what we want to achieve as a country and we should have won both legs.
I would feel more proud if Kenya were to improve having beaten more credible sides. But for now, I’ll congratulate the boys, not the federation. It’s a shame that we’re in July and yet the only international friendly the federation has organized this year has been this week’s match against Burundi. You’ll remember of course the fiasco when we went to play Sudan in a friendly.
Lesotho meanwhile shocked many people when they dismissed Liberia in their first round qualifier. Pundits had already predicted that Harambee Stars would meet Liberia especially after the West Africans won the first leg 1-0 in Monrovia. But the Southern African nation came back to score two goals in the second leg to earn a tie against Harambee Stars.
They are currently ranked 131 in the Fifa standings but statistics mean very little in football. Annoyingly, as I write this on Friday morning, a squad list for Kenya is yet to be released by Coach Adel Amrouche. I know that Macdonald Mariga and Victor Wanyama are in the team. Word has it that Dennis Oliech will link up with the team before Sunday, but as I write this, it’s still an assumption. I know our number one shot stopped Arnold Origi is not in the team, but on any given day, Stars have good back-up. I know nothing about the Lesotho team so on a wing and a prayer, I predict that we will at least earn an away point and then leave it to smash them here at home.
