The English Premier League is Liverpool’s to lose. That is my official position as we enter the last six rounds of matches this season. And I’m surprised that I don’t feel all that bad about it, even as an Arsenal fan.
That’s because Brendan Rodgers and the team have done a great job at Anfield and they’ve earned everything that’s coming to them.
The title is in their hands despite Manchester City haivng two games in hand over them. They play Man City on the 13th of April and if they win that and all their remaining games, then the title is theirs.
They have Arsenal to thank though for that because the Gunners denied the Citizens three points last weekend, putting City four points behind the Reds. Okay, I was just forcing Arsenal’s role in all this but its Liverpool’s place to take the credit.
I actually think its nice for a player like Steven Gerrard. It’s hard to find a fan of any club who doesn’t admire Stevie G for his committment to Liverpool and his antics on the pitch over the years. In fact many of us wish our clubs had such talent who would be committed to a club during good and bad times.
A player so talented but who at the end of his career can single out just one club that he belonged to. It would be sad if Gerrard were to retire having never won a Premier League title. We all know he’s not 24 years old and he won’t have that many more opportunities like this.
So good on Stevie G, I really hope this is your year. Of course I’m only saying all this because Arsenal are no longer in the title race. This Sunday we play Everton who are just four points behind us with a game in hand. Come Monday morning the Gunnera may just be facing Europa league football in the face!
Only Wenger can go from league leaders to a possible Europa place (which would be our first time under him to finish outside of the top four) in the span of two months.
And some fans still admire him. Anyway I don’t want to go into Arsenal right now. After surgery last week, my doctor told me to avoid stressful situations.
