Siaya senator James Orengo has termed as panicky the move by police to summon a section of ODM leaders over allegations of incitement and hate speech.
Orengo was speaking at Kilimani police station where he had accompanied Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar,Suna MP Junet Mohammed and Senator Elizabeth Ongoro to record a statement on alleged hate speech during political rallies.
Orengo said that their statements do not amount to either hate speech or incitement. Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko had ordered nine MPs affiliated to Cord to record statements on hate speech and incitement.
Others who accompanied Orengo to Kilimani were ODM Members Simba Arati, Tom Kajwang’, Otieno Kajwang’. ODM party leader Raila Odinga reiterated that his intention was not to overturn the government as alleged by some Jubilee affiliates but to seek interventions on the challenges affecting the people.
Raila also condemned the arrest of former Nairobi mayor George Aladwa’s arrest and harassment of other members saying that such actions will create more animosity.
The ODM leader said that it was “such a shame” that instead of Uhuru finding common ground for engagements, he was using state machinery to frustrate and intimidate ODM legislators.
