Kimunya pleads not guilty to abuse of office charge

Former Transport Minister Amos Kimunya has been charged before the anti-corruption court with abuse of office charged with, fraudulent disposal and acquisition of public property.

Kimunya was charged alongside Lilian Wangari former Director of Land Adjudication at the Ministry of Land and Junghae Wainaina Chairman of M/S Midland Ltd.

The charges are in a connection with a 25-acre piece of public land in Njabini, Nyandarua county was part of a 75-acre piece of land belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture reserved for a potatoes seed multiplication project. It is alleged that Kimunya while he was Minister of Lands allocated the land to M/S MidlandsLtd, a company which he was a director and shareholder.

The three pleaded not guilty to the charges before Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo. They were realesed on a cash bail of Sh1 million each or Sh2 million bond with one surety.

A hearing on the matter has been set for July 8 and 9
