JUSTICE Paul Kihara Kariuki was yesterday elected the president of the Court of Appeal.
In a hotly contested election, Justice Kihara beat his colleague David Maraga with a sole vote to get the position. The two had tied in the first vote forcing a second round of voting.
There are 27 judges of the Court of Appeal and Justice Erastus Githinji has been the acting president since Justice RSC Omolo was removed from judiciary on recommendation of the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board.
Early this year, Chief Justice made major changes in the country’s second highest court by decentralizing its services. In the move, three judges will be stationed in Malindi, four in Kisumu and a similar number in Nyeri. Nairobi will remain with the bulk of them with 16 judges.
