Administration police officers from Kamae AP post in Kahawa West have recovered 11 stolen cows on the Eastern by-pass. The cows were recovered at Kamiitu forest near the proposed Tatu City, some seven kilometres away from Kamae village.

A resident, Waiharo Kinuthia said armed attackers stormed his cowshed at around 1am on Tuesday. "They stole the cattle after locking my house and that of my neighbour from the outside," he said.

Kinuthia said neighbours raised an alarm following the attack. Kinuthia said this was a second time the raiders have struck the village. "I lost 41 animals few years back and were never recovered," he said.

AP officers on patrol led by inspector Ahmed Abdi trailed the cows to Kamiitu forest and recovered them at 5.30am yesterday. Abdi said the cattle rustlers escaped using two lorries stationed some 200 metres from Kamiitu forest.

A resident said crime level has declined since the AP post was established early last year. Kasarani AP boss Charles Ndung'u called on residents to take up the Nyumba Kumi initiative to curb crime. "We believe the rustlers have accomplices in this village, residents can help us fight crime if they work with the police," he said.

Please ensure that you know your neighbours and what kind of business they do," said Ndung'u. Meanwhile, Kahawa West residents have called on Kenyatta University to give them employment priority once a referral hospital whose construction is ongoing at the university is completed.
