President Uhuru Kenyatta this morning left the country to attend the 21st Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of IGAD member states in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The plane carrying the President and his entourage departed from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 8.00 a.m.
President Kenyatta was seen off at the airport by Deputy President William Ruto and senior Government officials led by the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Mr Francis Kimemia.
During the Summit the Heads of States are expected to deliberate on the IGAD Grand Stabilization plan for Somalia. The plan focuses on the political aspect of stabilization and is explicitly designed to complement the on-going military operations in Somalia as set out in the AMISOM concept of operations.
IGAD’s member countries have committed themselves to promotion of peace, security and stability in the region in conformity with the charters of the United Nations, African Union and other international instruments.
President Kenyatta is accompanied by the Attorney General Prof. Githu Muigai, Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe and Foreign Affairs Permanent secretary Thuita Mwangi among other senior government officials.
