Call it a biased opinion or whatever you want, but I’ve always said that at Radio Africa, all the stations give out the most amazing prizes for all their competitions.
It makes me wish I was on the other side of the fence trying to win cruise holidays, air tickets and VIP stadium passes to world class events, VIP concert tickets to see the biggest international stars on stage and top of the range mobile phones.
The only way you can get hold of these things which feature only in your pipe dreams is by listening to one of the radio stations under the Radio Africa umbrella.
From last month, we’ve been celebrating Eid, Navratri and Diwali at East FM and honestly speaking we have all worked hard as a team to bring our listeners the best prizes and giveaways ever.
We feel so proud when we announce what we are giving away because we know as a listener you will love to get your hands on these fantastic goodies. Then comes the dark cloud, which makes me ask myself what is wrong with some people.
There are some people who seem to have made it their day job to own at least four or five phone lines and suffer from a personal identity crisis by entering all the competitions with all their phone lines under different names. I’m not lying or exaggerating.
I’ve seen one woman come to our offices to collect prizes that had me astounded. One man proudly told me once at an event outside the station in a drunken stupor that he has won several times on the station and he seemed very proud of himself that he made a ‘fool of the presenters’ by faking his name and using different phone lines! I was aghast. He seemed very well dressed and shod, seemed to be drinking expensive alcohol while brandishing a top of the range phone in his other hand while telling me all this.
I got judgmental and I’m not going to apologise for it at all. Here you are, looking like you are from a very comfortable background, yet you have the need to act like a cheapskate and cheat your way by winning competitions?
One may argue that it is a competition and it is open to all. Yes, I agree with you on that, but I strongly disagree when you know deep down that you have won several times on the station and yet you are cheating and being greedy and continue taking part instead of giving other people a chance to win.
This is strongly my opinion and I’m not speaking on behalf of East FM or Radio Africa. I just find it disgustingly cheap when people behave like that.
You know you are cheating yet you carry on winning and then when requested politely to take it easy, you pile a barrage of abuse and start shouting at the presenters. That’s what I have a problem with.
If I was a listener and heard the same names winning all the time, I’d stop participating, thinking that there’s probably some kind of favouritism going on but that is not true at all.
We give everyone an equal chance to participate and win and we actually trust our listeners enough not to cheat but how do we control all that?
These are purely my frustrations and I just had to vent them out. If you are one of these people, please get a life. Stop cheating and try and look for a more productive hobby like counting pebbles on a beach or taking stock of the stars in the sky. Stop cheating because it makes me want to say mean things to you and name and shame you on every social media site I belong to. Grrr!
