Kenya records 1,001 new virus cases, 11 deaths

135 patients are in ICU with 90 are on ventilatory support.

Kenya on Friday recorded 1,001 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country's case load to 238,852, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 9,065, recording a positivity rate of 11 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 2,397,923.

The country's fatalities have risen to 4,757 after another 11 patients succumbed to the disease on diverse dates.

Kagwe said that there are 1,867 patients currently admitted in various hospitals across the country. Another, 5,190 patients are on the home-based care programme.

A total of 135 patients are in ICU, out of which 90 are on ventilatory support.

Also, 780 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, out of which 716 are in general wards and 64 in the HDU.

Meanwhile, 1,155 patients have recovered from the disease out of which 1,001 were from the homebased care programme, while 154 were discharged from various health facilities.

Kenya's recoveries now stand at 226,037.

VACCINATION

The CS said a total of 2,809,389 vaccines had been administered as of September 2.
