This disease is manageable and treatable, Kenya's first coronavirus patient has said.

The lady identified as Brenda spoke on Wednesday as she, along with another patient Brian, held a live video chat with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The two recovered patients were accompanied by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe at Afya House.

Brenda urged Kenyans be responsible citizens and report to health authorities once they exhibit the Covid-19 have symptoms.

"Contact the authorities and come forward and be confident," she said.

"I went to the US in December and took a flight to London. I believe that was maybe where I contracted the virus."

Brenda said that during her stay in the United States, she saw that there was an isolation centre in Mbagathi, Kenya.

"When I landed (in Kenya) I had a cough for three days. I monitored my body for a day and went to Mbagathi Hospital the following day," she said.

"The medics took me seriously and gave me a mask. I have been quarantined for 23 days, I was  treated well."

She noted that the nurses were under pressure and at times referred to her as 'patient one'.

"They kept on saying that this was the first patient, sometimes I was very emotional," she says.

When she came to Kenya she got into contact with her friend Brian.

"I got it from Brenda. Immediately her results got back, I knew I was also positive. I want to thank the government because they came for me and took me to a government facility. They treated me for the past two weeks," Brian narrated.

Uhuru during the live video chat praised the two for their bravery.

The President said the two showed that Kenyans can not only contain this disease but can also treat the virus and get out of it.

"Let us follow Brenda and Brian's example. We can contain this disease. For all of us who are out there, who have these symptoms..let us behave like these people and report symptoms. Let's stay away..let us bring ourselves forward and be treated because it is treatable, there is no stigma," he said.

Uhuru said once the two are done with the doctors he would like to meet them personally at State House.

Kenya reported its first case on March 13.

The country now has 59 confirmed Covid-19 cases with one fatality.
