I won't tolerate laxity, Ottichilo warns new cabinet

Says the job is for delivery of services in a selfless manner

Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo issued a harsh warning to his executives as they took the oath of office.

Ottichilo said he won’t tolerate laxity and non performance towards his 2022-2027 development agenda.

He spoke virtually from Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt, where he is attending the COP27 summit.

"You are the team that will join hands to steer our county to greater heights and that won’t come when you are sleeping on duty," the governor said.

Ottichilo’s Cabinet will include Mike Iravo for the Public Service docket, Jyrus Amayi for finance, Ruth Mbwaya for Education and Anne Chilande for Water and Environment.

Also, Nicholas Madaga for Health, Julius Kiboen for Lands and planning, Nicholas Kitungulu for Agriculture, Meshack Onzere for Sports, Gender and Social Services and Joseph Lunani for Transport and Infrastructure.

Mercy Adema who was nominated for Trade, Tourism and Cooperative was not approved by the assembly for lack of Degree papers last Wednesday.

"You have not been given this offices to come and earn a living. You have been given them to serve the residents of this county," Ottichillo said.

The governor said he had to shortlist only 10 nominees from the 800 applicants.

“It wasn’t an easy task for me to narrow down to 10 from 800, so count yourself lucky,” he said.

Ottichilo said he will introduce performance contracts for the executives to sign and be evaluated.

"This a job of delivery of services in a selfless manner, if you can't please just park and leave," he said. 

"Each of you have targets, which will be evaluated."

The county chief said he his committed to ensuring his manifesto is being implemented on time.

He urged the executives to familiarise with his agenda and the constitution.

Ottichilo dropped all his first term executives as he sort to restructure his administration.

Those sent home were Alfred Indeche (Finance), Henry Lumbasio (Education), Prof Justus Inonda (Transport and Infrastructure), Felistas Barasa (Sports) and Mr Geoffrey Vukaya (Trade).

Mary Amalemba resigned to seek an elective post, which she lost to Beatrice Adagala.

Pamela Kimwele, Amos Kutwa, Keneth Keseko and Paul Mbuni were impeached.
