Kuppet national chairman Omboko Milemba has said the National Government Constituency Development Fund should not be interfered with.

Milemba, who doubles up as Emuhaya MP, said the kitty helps in paying fees for learners and construction of infrastructure in schools.

He said the current Act being used by the government to run the  kitty was legislated in 2015.

He was addressing the press in Bungoma on Saturday during the Kuppet annual general meeting at Santa Mara hotel.

The legislator said MPs are working day and night to ensure the kitty remains in operation as it is the one that supports poor but bright students to access education.

Milemba also criticised the outgoing Treasury CS Ukur Yatani for saying NG-CDF is null and void.

On teachers’ salaries, the Kenya Kwanza MP said plans are underway to sue the Salary and Remuneration Commission.

Milemba accused the SRC for blocking Kuppet's move to negotiate with the Teachers Service Commission.

He said many teachers have stagnated in their positions without promotions, and that Kuppet seeks to address the issue.

The Emuhaya MP lauded President William Ruto’s move to form a task force to review the Competency Based Curriculum.

“When we were moving around the country with President Ruto, we heard many people complain about the CBC. That is why we want to involve every stakeholder and make the same decision over the same,” he said.

Milemba said after the task force completes its work, it will help decide whether to retain or do away with the system completely.

Bungoma county Kuppet chairman David Barasa told the Star that unionists would be on the forefront in fighting for teachers' welfare.

Also present was Kuppet secretary general Akello Misori and Bungoma Kessha chairman Edward Bikala, among other officials.
