Nalondo CBM Special National Secondary School principal Walter Kwanusu has accused the Ministry of Education of delaying the release of special grants to schools.

The special school in the Kabuchai constituency is for disabled learners.

In an exclusive interview with the Star on Monday, Kwanusu said the government normally releases special grants to schools earlier but this time the delay is exposing the schools to hardships.

“We are disappointed with the Ministry of Education's continued delay because it is affecting the smooth running of our school,” Kwanusu said.

Kwanusu urged the ministry to move with speed and ensure that schools receive the special grants faster.

“Currently the school is running on debts, when we receive the money from the ministry it will be channeled to suppliers and other debts. So it will be wise if the funds are availed on time,” he said.

Kwanusu also slammed the ministry for failing to build CBC classrooms for special schools.

“I am wondering how Cabinet Secretary George Magoha wants me to admit CBC students here without a single classroom, I want him to ensure we get some extra classrooms before admission,” he said.

He said, currently, teachers need ample time to cover the syllabus because of the interruption of the school calendar.

He also urged parents staying with children living with disability to take them to school instead of hiding them.

“Disability is not inability, we have seen PWDs win elections and become good leaders. Please let’s support our children living with disabilities to get an education,” Kwanusu said.
