Ottichilo sends Khaniri, Agoi to political cold as he retains seat

During campaigns the governor had warned the two saying he would beat them in the contest

Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has outshined his opponents to retain his seat in the August 9 general election.

Ottichilo was declared governor-elect by county returning officer Peter Tiyo after getting majority votes across the county.

Ottichilo's win sends rivals Alfred Agoi, and George Khaniri into political cold for the next five years.

Initially, the incumbent governor had warned the two citing that he will send them to political cold.

"Some people say they have never been in the political cold, this time round they will," ottichilo said.

During the campaign period, Khaniri had severally promised to send governor Ottichilo home on August 9.

However Khaniri's move to send ottichilo home failed as the incumbent governor cut his win consistency on the ballot 

Ottichilo got 82,313 votes, former governor Moses Akaranga got  42,432, Khaniri got 28,496 votes, outgoing Sabatia MP Agoi got 26,088 and Francis Ominde was last with 2,325 votes.

Total registered voters in Vihiga are 310,043, however 181,654 votes were cast.

Performance of the candidates per constituency were as follows; Governor Wilber Ottichilo

Emuhaya :26,294 votes,

Luanda : 25, 436 votes,

Vihiga : 9,657 Votes,

Sabatia :8,506, votes

Hamisi : 12,420 votes.

Former Governor Moses Akaranga came second and his performance per constituency was as follows:

Emuhaya :1,098 votes,

Luanda : 2,307 votes,

Vihiga : 11,726votes,

Sabatia : 14,991, votes

Hamisi : 12,310 votes.

The outgoing senator came third and his performance per constituency was as follows:

Emuhaya :2,272 votes,

Luanda : 4,940 votes,

Vihiga : 3,875 votes,

Sabatia : 3,452, votes

Hamisi : 13,957 votes.

The outgoing Sabatia lawmaker who was in the race became forth and his performance per constituency was as follows:

Emuhaya :1,086 votes,

Luanda : 1,097 votes,

Vihiga : 4,060 Votes,

Sabatia : 14,584, votes

Hamisi : 5,261votes.

Former county secretary Francis Ominde came last in the race and his performance was as follows per constituency:

Emuhaya :209 votes,

Luanda : 2,38 votes,

Vihiga : 500 votes,

Sabatia : 442 votes

Hamisi : 936votes.
