Cheptais MCA Jane Chebet will battle it out with eight men in the Mt Elgon parliamentary race in a bid to unseat area MP Fred Kapondi of UDA party.

Speaking at Kimabole market in Mt Elgon on Sunday during a rally to woo residents, Chebet said she is ready to face the eight men in the August polls and asked residents to support her on Thursday during the Ford Kenya party primaries.

"I humbly ask you to vote for me as a Ford Kenya party candidate on 14th  this month, my competitor in the primaries is a weak aspirant who cannot defeat me. After my win in the party primaries, I will focus on competing with the eight men who have declared interest in the seat," she said.

Chebet affirmed if elected as MP, she will distribute NG-CDF funds equally in schools accusing Kapondi of favouring certain areas.

"We have had a challenge with Hon Kapondi during the disbursement of NG-CDF funds, I want to assure that if you vote for me, then I will ensure that every individual enjoys the benefits of those funds,” she said.

Chebet revealed that the Deputy president William Ruto will support her bid for the position through Ford Kenya.

"I had a discussion with UDA party leader William Ruto and requested me to run for the Ford Kenya party but assured me of his support," she said.

Chebet also drummed up support for the Senate speaker Ken Lusaka's bid to be Bungoma governor, adding that he is the only saviour of Bungoma.

The aspirant down played rumours of people causing chaos during her rallies saying that she is ready to face them.

"Some men have planned to interfere with my campaigns in Mt Elgon I want to tell them that I am ready to meet them face to face."

She urged Mt Elgon residents to remain calm before, during and after elections, adding that after elections life must continue.

Those who have lined up to unseat Kapondi include Allan Chemaiyek (UDA), Kawon Kirui (UDA), Jane Chebet (Ford Kenya), Evans Chemwotei (Ford Kenya), Robin Kesis (Independent), Moss Ndiema (Independent), Silas Cheren (Independent), Moses Musundi ( ANC) and Moses Cheshari (ANC).
