Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has said his administration will increase scholarship beneficiaries from 2,000 to 3,000.

He said this is because in the 2021 KCPE exam many students performed extremely well.

Speaking at East Sang'alo on Saturday, Wangamati lauded Bungoma teachers for ensuring that Bungoma county appeared in the top list in the country in the recently released KCPE exam results.

"I want to thank Bungoma teachers, who despite the Covid-19 interruptions, were able to mentor their learners," Wangamati said, adding that the county has been doing exemplary well in both KCPE and KCSE examination.

"My administration is ready to receive all the scholarship application from across the county," Wangamati said.

The county boss asked those who performed well in the 2021 KCPE exam  to start applying for the scholarships through ward administrators offices.

Wangamati said before a student is considered to be awarded a scholarship, home visits are done by the county executives to ascertain if the student is really needy.

“Scholarships are strictly for bright but poor learners who scored good marks therefore we normally do an impromptu visit to check whether the family is needy,” he said.

He said the county partners with other education funding schemes to fund bright students, saying that in the next 10 years Bungoma will be having many professionals.

Wangamati also lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta and Agriculture CS Peter Munya for reducing fertiliser prices, saying that it has given farmers a sigh of relief as they can get the farm input at a cheaper price.

"Farmers were really complaining about the hike in farm inputs but the President has ordered all the farm dealers to reduce fertiliser price," he said.

He also said farmers can now get fertiliser at the National Cereals Produce Board at a cheaper price.

Wangamati also blamed rowdy youths who attacked ODM leader Raila Odinga's chopper in Uasin Gishu county during the burial of Jackson Kibor.

He said it was a bad impression asking Azimio la Umoja opponents to style up.

Wangamati trashed Kenya Kwanza bridge agenda, saying that it has no foundation asking Western region to rally behind Raila’s presidential bid.
