Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has told off Senator George Khaniri for claiming to have brought funds to the county through increased allocation.

And on Saturday told him to focus on his job of oversight.

Khaniri is seeking to replace ODM's Ottichilo. The two are trading accusations as campaigning for the August election heats up.

Khaniri of UDP said the county has nothing to show for the billions of shillings sent to it for devolution. The senator said he lobbied for the county to get increased allocation.

Ottichilo dismissed the claim as untrue, saying the senator was engaging in cheap propaganda to win votes.

He was addressing residents in Luanda subcounty at Mumboha grounds on Saturday.

The governor said what the county has been receiving is its constitutional right under the Revenue Allocation Bill.

“When Khaniri says he has brought money and he can't see what we have done, then he will never see what the county has achieved even 100 years to come," Ottichilo said.

"It's important to oversee what your money is doing when you bring it but how do you expect to do so when you cease your oversight duties?" he asked.

Ottichilo urged Khaniri to sell his agenda and tell the people of Vihiga what he will do if elected.

"But I don't see anything he will do as for the last 30 years he has been in leadership, we can't see his track record," the governor said.

He was reacting to Khaniri's statement that he has brought more than Sh25 billion to Ottichilo's administration but he can't see what they have achieved for four and half years.

"When we picked up devolution in 2013 under Moses Akaranga we had hopes of development but it turned out to be a disappointment to residents,"Khaniri said.

"About Sh16 billion went to waste, with no tangible development in Vihiga county and in 2017 to 2022 as well," he added.

However, Akaranga dismissed his Khaniri's claims, saying he should admit his failures in oversight as the county senator.

"When you are assigned roles of oversight by the Vihiga people, admit you failed in your work and stop shifting the blame to others," Akaranga said during Progressive Party of Kenya (PPOK) national delegates conference.

"If he fails in the simple work of oversight, how will he manage the county with more than 10 departments," he asked.
