Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has said he has achieved what he promised residents in 2017 after he assumed office as governor.

Speaking in Webuye on Saturday during the Azimio la Umoja rally, Wangamati urged his opponents to stop downplaying his achievements and instead tell residents what they will do for them if they get elected.

Wangamati disagreed with Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka’s sentiments made at Posta grounds during his rally where he said the Wangamati's scholarship kitty is full of corruption and those awarded  are from well off families.

Wangamati trashed Lusaka’s sentiments, saying the scholarship is always given to bright but needy students from the whole county.

“The scholarship should not be politicised as it aims at uplifting and promoting education in Bungoma and beyond, the selection of students who join the scheme is always vetted and home visits done to ascertain if the student is needy,” he said, adding that the county CECM always moves around to ascertain if the students are poor.

He added that in his tenure as the area governor, he held meetings with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Environment and Forestry CS Keriako Tobiko to ensure Chetambe hills residents in Webuye East are not evicted from the area.

“I and CS Wamalwa have fought for Chetambe hills residents. Nobody should come here with propaganda that he is the one who helped you,” Wangamati said, adding that he has built a dairy processing plant in Webuye assuring that millions of shillings will be injected into the plant.

“The milk plant that my administration built here in Webuye will open up employment opportunities for youths from Bungoma and beyond. My aim is to change the face of Bungoma and not to involve myself in accusations with my opponents who have no agenda,” Wangamati added.

The governor asked Bungoma residents to reelect him assuring that he will complete the flagship projects that his administration has not yet completed.

He added that his administration is also putting up a dual- carriage way from Musikoma- Kanduyi saying the road will decongest Bungoma town and will help improve drainage system within Bungoma town.

Wangamati also drummed up support for ODM leader  Raila Odinga presidential bid. He blamed ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang'ula for betraying the Luhya unity saying that their move to hustler team has given the Luhya nation new kingpins governor Wycliff Oparanya and CS Eugene Wamalwa.

“The move by ANC and Ford Kenya leaders to move to the hustler team has given Western region a new face of politics as we have gotten other Luhya leaders who have shown us the way,” he said.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega said Ford Kenya and ANC leaders have no agenda in politics.

He said their supporters endorsed them during their respective NDC meetings yet they have gone to hustler team to seek for small positions in Ruto’s team if he wins elections, but unfortunately he will not win, he added.

“If Mudavadi and Wetang’ula are men enough, let them run for the Presidency seat and stop this hide and seek game,” Kega added.
