- Board said they were impressed by the work being done in implementing CDF funded projects in the constituency, which experiences flood every rainy season.
The National Government Constituency Development Fund has supported a proposal to increase funding to constituencies in hardship areas.
Board members, while on a tour of Budalang’i, said some constituencies are facing diverse challenges that require extra financing.
Although the board did not specify which of the constituencies in hardship areas will qualify for more funding if the proposal is approved, they said it was critical to note that there are constituencies with complicated challenges that require more money for development to be realised and for the inhabitants to live comfortably.
NG-CDF director Isabel Waiyaki said it is important to acknowledge that Kenyans at constituency level still face numerous challenges that need more financing from the government.
“At the CDF board, we will continue to support constituencies so that they continue doing the good work they are doing,” she said.
“In as far as the needs we have seen in Budalang’i are concerned, we have seen that this constituency has many demands. From what we have seen, the money the constituency receives is not enough to do all the projects they are implementing.”
“We would suggest that the money, Budalang’i and other constituencies in hardship areas receive, be increased so that they are able to complete critical projects depending on their needs. This is not only applicable to constituencies like Budalang’i but all other constituencies in the country.”
Waiyaki and other board members were speaking in Budalang’i during a tour of CDF-funded projects in the constituency.
She said the board was impressed by the work being done in implementing CDF funded projects in the constituency, which experiences flooding every rainy season.
Area MP Raphael Wanjala lauded the board for backing the proposal to increase funding for constituencies facing calamities.
“It is important that we get more funding because what we have done with CDF money is proof that we are doing a lot of work even compared to the county government,” the MP said.
He said his constituency deserves more CDF money owing to the flooding problem it faces every year.
He said some schools in the area have been relocated because of flooding.
“Some schools are still flooded up to now and can’t be occupied,” Wanjala said.
He said the needs in Budalang’i are still many since some schools still face sanitation challenges because of the floods.
“The county government has failed us because they promised to supply piped water in schools to improve sanitation but they have not done that,” he said.
Over 40,000 people were displaced by floods in Budalang’i in mid-2020.
