ODM leader Raila Odinga has denied claims he only visits the Western region to look for votes but takes all development projects to Nyanza.

He termed the accusations from various politicians as total lies and malicious.

“I can never sideline Western or any region in this country. The recent projects launched in Nyanza like the port could not be set up in Western because the region has no lake like in Kisumu,” he said.

He said the port project was earmarked years ago.

“That project did not start because of my handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta. It is something that has been in the pipeline since the colonial days,” Raila said

He spoke in Sirisia during the funeral of Magret Nandalwe, the mother of politician Moses Nandalwe.

Raila said the same railway project that was launched in Kisumu goes all the way Butere in Western and another from Nakuru to the Malaba border.

He said while he was the Roads minister during former President Mwai Kibaki's regime, he spearheaded the construction of key roads in Western Kenya. They include the Kisumu-Kakamega road and the Kakamega-Kitale road

The former Prime Minister reminded his supporters that although he has a good working relationship with Uhuru, that does not mean he is in government.

“We are still in the opposition and our journey to get to the helm of this country is yet to be fulfilled,” he said.

Raila said if elected, he would ensure the region grows economically by ensuring both the sugar industry and the flooding menace in parts like Budalang’i are addressed.

Saboti MP Caleb Hamisi and his Budalang'i counterpart Raphael Wanjala urged the Mulembe nation to continue supporting Raila.

Cotu boss Francis Atwoli warned that Luhya leaders supporting Deputy President William Ruto will be voted out.

He said he has commissioned research and at the end of this year, he will announce the leaders who should be voted for by the Mulembe nation.
