Police in Kisumu have arrested a boda boda rider for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old Grade 3 pupil.

County police commander Samuel Anampiu said Josphat Odhiambo, 26, is in custody after being arrested on Monday.

The minor’s mother reported the incident after she noticed her daughter walking in a manner quite unusual and suggestive of some bodily injury.

The mother spoke with her and she opened up that Odhiambo, a boda boda rider at Nyamasaria Bridge Base, had been defiling her.

The last day she was defiled was Friday, July 23, 2021, according to a police report. The girl stays with her mother at Kasule in the Nyamasaria area. Investigations are underway.

“The mother reported the matter to area assistant chief Erick Adongo who summoned the suspect before he was escorted to the patrol base where he was arrested and detained for further investigations,” Anampiu said.

The girl was taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital gender wing for examination.

Meanwhile, police rescued an unknown man from mob justice at Kisumu Bus Park near Jubilee Market. He is said to have taken some drugs and was causing a disturbance.

“The officers managed to rescue him with the help of a quick response team and took him to Kisumu District Hospital,” Anampiu said.

Separately, police officers from Kondele police station, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, recovered 100 grammes of bhang and arrested a suspect on Lolwe estate.

“The public had suspected that the owner of the house was selling Cannabis sativa,” Anampiu said.

Police raided the house and found Arnold Omondi Adero, 34, rolling a substance believed to be bhang into silver papers.

They also seized 144 leaflets of silver rolling papers and 258 cookies believed to have been baked with bhang. They were packed in khaki envelopes.

“All the exhibits had a street value of Sh27,800,” Anampiu said.

The suspect will be arraigned pending sampling and testing at the government chemist.
