It’s a miracle, says woman who gave birth to triplets

Ultrasound showed she was carrying two boys

A 22-year-old girl from Muji village in Webuye West constituency, Bungoma, on Monday gave birth to triplets through a cesarean section.

Shakeeila Nanjala gave birth to two boys and one girl at Friends Mission Lugulu Hospital.  

Family members took her to the hospital on a motorbike on Monday night after developing labour pains. 

 

The first baby, a girl, weighed 2.4 kgs, the second was a boy who weighed 2.1 kgs and the other son weighed 2.8 kgs.

Nanjala said she did not expect to deliver three babies during her first delivery.

She told journalists that when she got to the hospital, doctors examined her and told her that she could be carrying twins.

"I was operated on and the first child who was delivered was a baby girl . She was followed by two boys. It’s a miracle," Nanjala said.

Nanjala said that her boyfriend left her after she got pregnant. She does not have a job and does not know how she will raise her children.

The nurse in charge of the maternity, Anne Maelo, said as a hospital they were very happy after the triplets were successfully delivered.

"This girl was brought to our hospital at about 12am midnight with multiple pregnancy breech presentation. We took her to the theatre and performed a caesarean section," she said.

 

Maelo said the mother and the babies are in a stable condition.

"I want to thank the county government, the management of Lugulu Mission Hospital and the Linda Mama Programme that has enabled many women here in Bungoma to come to the hospital for free deliveries," she said

Maelo said 153 babies have be en delivered since the census period beginning from August 24. 

Nanjala's mother, Hazina Omar, said she is happy that her firstborn daughter has given her blessings of three grandchildren.

"I thank God for standing with my daughter in the theatre and giving me grandchildren even though she is not yet married. I stay with her," she said.

Maelo appealed to the county government to assist the girl raise the children

Omar said that at night her daughter would tell her that her tummy was very heavy. It was a difficult task for her to turn while sleeping.

She said her daughter did an ultrasound which showed she was carrying two boys.

Omar said that she was shocked that the children delivered were three.
