Nandi women representative Cynthia Muge-Rotich could be heading for the governorship position in the 2027 polls in a bid to replace Stephen Sang.

Governor Sang is in his second last term in the position and already opinion leaders among them county representatives are gearing up campaigns to identify a replacement.

Twelve MCAs from the county assembly of Nandi have kicked out a storm throwing their support behind the women representative saying she would be an ideal person.

Ward representatives drawn from the Six Nandi constituencies said they wanted to be on record in identifying Sang’s replacement.

“We know there are still Four more years to go before the general elections, but as we chart out the development agenda for the people of Nandi. We want to say Hon. Cynthia Muge-Rotich is fit for the governorship post.

“Now that our governor Stephen Sang will not be seeking re-election in 2027, our woman representative is the ideal person to replace him,” Isaac Mosbei (Kaboi/Kaptumo ward) said.

Others included Truphosa Kuto-Kemeloi/Maraba, Sarah Mutwol-Chepterit/Kosirai, and Lucy Tololei-Chepterwai among others said they would rally their support behind Muge.

They spoke in Kapsabet during the distribution of the Sh7.5M affirmative fund kitty to various groups in the Nandi Six constituencies.

Muge was first handed an elective seat by residents of Kilibwoni ward in 2017 at the age of 24 as an MCA vying then on an independent ticket.

She was the youngest MCA at the Nandi County assembly.

She had just graduated from the University of Nairobi earning a degree in urban and regional development( Physical planning).

At the Nandi assembly, Muge together with a few county representatives identified themselves as independent-minded persons checking the county government at every step on the management of the resources.

Muge, a go-getter politician, enjoys strong command in English, and Kiswahili and Nandi,  now 30, has been extremely vocal on gender and national issues.

An alumnus of Moi Girls Isinya and the University of Nairobi, she is currently pursuing a PhD.

She has earned herself enemies and admirers in equal measure with many equating her with the late maverick lawmaker during the KANU days, the late MP Philomena Chelagat Mutai who hailed from the same locality of Kilibwoni.

Should she yield to pressure and persuasion to enter the race, she would probably give male aspirants a run for their money and give Nandi politics a taste never felt before.
