Asian trader nursing injuries after being shot in Kitale

An Asian businessman was on Monday evening shot and left injured in a robbery incident in Kitale town in Trans Nzoia county.

The incident caught helpless onlookers in shock, bringing all other businesses to a standstill.

It is the latest robbery with violence incident to be reported in the town ahead of the Christmas festivities.

A witness said the criminals shot the and escaped using a motorcycle.

Kwanza subcounty police commander James Odera confirmed the incident, saying the three criminals accosted the Asian businessman and took away some unspecified amount of money.

"The three suspects on a motorcycle entered the shop that sells motorcycles spare parts and other accessories at about 4 pm and demanded money. They shot the businessman, took the money and escaped on a motorcycle," he said.

The police boss could not reveal the identity of the businessman for security reasons.

However, no arrests have been made so far as the police continue to pursue the suspects.

Odera cautioned businessmen to install CCTV, on the premises. He said patrols will be intensified during the festive season.

The injured businessman was rushed the county referral hospital.
