More than 4,000 Uasin Gishu county employees have been assured that their jobs are safe under Governor Jonathan Bii, also known as Koti Moja.

Bii and his deputy John Barorot said none of the employees would be frustrated under his administration. He pledged his commitment to improve the welfare of the workers.

The employees will however be subjected to performance contracting to ensure service delivery, he said.

Bii said the political period is over and it is time to work to develop the county.

“Our main interest is to serve residents and that should be our focus and nothing else,” Bii said.

The new county chief said even those who voted for his rivals should feel safe and stop regretting or harbouring anger or any fears.

Bii defeated independent candidate Bundotich Kiprop Buzeki and UDM’s William Kirwa during the August 9 polls.

“Even those who voted for Buzeki or Kirwa should now join us as we move forward because politics was just a competition to get new leaders and nothing more than that. We are now one people belonging to this county,” he said.

Bii and Barorot were speaking at a meeting with county workers in Uasin Gishu.

Barorot said employees should not use their jobs for rent seeking at the expense of services to residents.

“We have to deliver on our manifesto and we urge that if you are employed don’t use your job for rent seeking while not doing what you are employed to do,” he said.

Barorot said performance contracting is not a choice but a must for the county workers.

“As an employee you have been given an opportunity to serve and you should not use the job you have been given for selfish gains while leaving residents of the county without the necessary services,” he said.

Bii has pledged to make staff changes that will ensure he delivers on his mandate and also work on transforming the economy of the county to create jobs for youth and better earnings for all residents, including farmers.
