It may take longer before results from West Pokot county are officially announced after UDA supporters protested over poor network coverage.

The supporters said their leaders, former West Pokot governor Simon Kachapin and the current MP Samuel Moroto, had won, but the IEBC is delaying to announce the results.

Police were forced to disperse the rowdy crowd using tear gas after being denied access to the tallying centre.

The protesters, who were chanting "Lonyangapua must go", threw stones at the police officers who were inside Nasokol Seconday School tallying centre.

Kachapin, Moroto and immediate former Kacheliba MP Mark Lomunokol arrived with other supporters and were allowed in.

Moroto criticised the police for using excessive force to quell the protests.

“The IEBC should tell us why it’s delaying to announce the results,” he said.

By the time of filing this report, many presiding officers were yet to submit their results, and were still waiting in the long queues.

Earlier, county returning officer Joyce Wamalwa had cited poor roads and communication in the region that could hinder timely transmission of results.
