Sudi said elective seats in the county were not the preserve of certain people and Mandago should drop out of the Senate race.
But at several functions in the county, Mandago lashed out at Sudi, accusing him of attempting to control county politics. The governor said he had the right to vie for any seat in the county.
“The MP for Kapseret has been going round talking badly about me and saying I should not be elected as senator for Uasin Gishu.
"But I warn him he is playing with fire. It is I who will ensure he exits the leadership of this county," Mandago said.
He said the MP should concentrate on his Kapseret constituency and stop poking his nose into matters beyond his capacity. “We wonder where he got the role of trying to plan politics in Uasin Gishu," Mandago said.
The governor said he was up to the task and having served as governor, he was best placed to play an oversight role in the Senate.
“Things go wrong in this county because we have some people in Parliament who cannot even play their legislative role. Those close to Sudi should tell him I will vanquish him and others like him the same way I did when I won the governor's seat," Mandago said.
He said he has the goodwill of residents of Uasin Gishu because he has performed well as governor.
Mandago declared a month ago he would run for the Senate seat through UDA and face several other aspirants. Incumbent Senator Margaret Kamar has not said whether she will defend her seat.
Ruto visited the region last week and urged residents to elect only UDA candidates in the general elections.
