Former Geothermal Development Company CEO Johnson ole Nchoe has told politicians in Narok county to stop dividing communities along tribal and clan lines.
He said leaders should sell their agenda to the people instead of engaging in unnecessary politics which at the end of the day will not assist the common man.
“They [leaders] should stop resorting to tribal politics because Narok is a cosmopolitan county that incorporates all tribes and races,” he said.
In an interview with the Star, Nchoe said the leaders should move towards issue-based voting and discourage tribal loyalty.
He said the politics of tribalism has denied the region leaders who are committed to addressing the biggest challenges of poverty, unemployment, among others.
“As leaders, it is high time we shun such retrogressive behaviours that have been overtaken by time," he said.
"That is why I am striving for a united county where all the people co-exist in peace and respect."
He said tribalism cannot add value to life, saying there is a need for politicians to preach peace and reconciliation.
Nchoe also said that leaders should respect the rule of law and desist from discriminating against any ethnic group, gender, religion or creed.
“The leaders should work towards uniting all the people and rediscover the shared ideals that lie at our strength and unity as a people.
Nchoe vied for the Narok gubernatorial seat in the 2013 general election on the ODM party ticket.
In 2017, he threw his support behind the Jubilee party which resulted in Jubilee winning most of the seats in the county.
When asked if he will contest for the seat again in the next year's polls, Nchoe remained non-committal.
