MAASAI leaders have refused to move from the contentious 75,000 -acre Kedong Ranch.
Led by Narok Senator Stephen Ntutu and Narok East MP Ken Kiloku, the community said the “title deeds issued to members from other communities are fake and thus should be nullified”.
Speaking at Suswa in Narok county on Saturday during a community meeting, the leaders called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene to ensure the community is not deprived of their “birthright”.
“This is a calculated scheme to drive the Maasai out of their ancestral land. Any attempts to bring people from other counties will be resisted,” Ntutu said.
He said they plan to have a meeting with the President because the matter “is sensitive and can cause tribal clashes if not addressed”.
Mositet said the land should “immediately be reverted to the community” and dismissed moves by “certain politicians led by Kiambu Senator Wamatangi to settle some families at the ranch”.
Ntutu said Wamatangi wants to hold prayers at the disputed land.
“We have gone to the Supreme Court to contest the ruling made by the Court of Appeal. We are giving the government a six-month ultimatum to address this issue and if nothing is done by then, we will convene a meeting at Suswa grounds to make a declaration,” Mositet said.
Kiloku called on the Jubilee administration to be “responsible and honour the pledge it had made to the Maasai community just before the last general election”.
“This is a volatile issue. The Maasai have lived in this piece of land since time immemorial and for anyone to ask them to move out is totally unacceptable,” Kiloku said.
He said some people had been duped into buying the land.
