THE polio vaccination in Naivasha, Nakuru county, was successful despite opposition by some faithful from the Catholic church.

Oren Ombiro, Naivasha medical officer in charge of health, yesterday said the number of children immunised against polio surpassed the target.

The subcounty planned to give the vaccine to 46,000 children but 46,637 received it.

The health officer said the vaccine is safe and is approved by the World Health Organisation, Unicef and the government.

Speaking in his office, Ombiro said the vaccination was supervised by the Nakuru government.

Only a few people resisted the vaccination that began last Saturday and ended on Wednesday.
