The Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union has signed a 22 per cent salary increase agreement with Kenya Tea Packers.
Cotu boss Francis Atwoli, who is also KPAWU secretary general, signed the collective bargaining agreement with Ketepa’s MD Collins Cheruiyot at the union’s headquarters in Nakuru town last Wednesday.
The lowest paid employee will now earn Sh12,817 and the highest paid will get Sh70,778 per month.
For employees working in Nairobi and Mombasa, their house allowances are covered by the 22 per cent increase.
The house allowances for those in other urban centres will stand at 15 per cent.
Speaking after the signing of the agreement, Atwoli commended Ketepa for sharing their returns with workers and urged other companies in the tea industry to follow suit.
