Six leaders from Bomet county have warned Governor Isaac Rutto that he risks being arrested if he does not step aside.
Rutto is among governors in the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission ‘list of shame’.
The leaders said some governors are politicising President Uhuru Kenyatta’s corruption purge yet they are public officials.
Bomet Senator Wilfred Lesan said all governors mentioned should emulate officials who have resigned.
“They have been asked to step aside but they are refusing. What does this mean? Are they playing around the issue? Misuse of public finances is a serious crime and as Bomet leaders we do not expect the governor to play politics,” he said.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso and Bomet Central MP Ronald Tonui said Rutto should heed the directive to avoid the embarrassment of an arrest.
“Investigating authorities will have no option but to arrest him if he does not comply,” Tonui said.
Bomet East MP Bernard Bett and Sammy Koech of Konoin said the electorate’s patience is running out and they would take to the streets to compel Rutto to step aside.
Tett accused the governor of employing sideshows to divert attention on the corruption allegations facing him.
The leaders were speaking during visits at Konoin, Sotik and Bomet East at the weekend.
“Our input has never been sought regarding development and when we try to propose anything, it is wished away by the governor. This is a clear indication something is wrong,” Tonui said.
