The government has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to run the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

Newton SK Terer will now take over as CEO from Cornel Ngelechei who has been acting as Managing Director for the last one year.

Long-serving CEO of the board Joseph Misoi retired last year after his contract at the board ended.

Terer took over yesterday and attended his first official function in Eldoret where the board rolled out its plans to restructure its operations.

"I have just taken over and I will need to consult my experts before I comment on most issues," said Terer.

However he said the restructuring plan will make NCPB a more strong and vibrant organization to serve the country effectively.

He said they are in talks with the government to pay up more than Sh 7 Billion which it owes to the board.

"The debt has hampered operations of the NCPB and if we get the money then we will even serve better and buy more produce like maize from farmers," said Terer.

"There will be however a proper auditing to authenticate the debt although I know the government is willing to support the NCPB," said Terer.

The board has been experiencing serious financial challenges but Terer said they would look into proposed ways of making it strong finacially.

NCPB is expected to be restructured at a cost of more than Sh 5 Billion but the actual cost will be known once the plan is approved.
