Power struggles are sweeping Mt Kenya as youthful and ambitious legislators within UDA are audaciously contradicting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
While divisions deepen within UDA ranks, opposition bigwigs from the region are plotting to make President William Ruto a one-term president and replace in their own line-up.
At the Limuru III conference last Friday, leaders called for unity and their own presidential candidate in 2027. Some participants are now saying the interests of the region cannot be addressed ‘by an outsider’ – meaning Ruto who hails from Rift Valley.
"Uhuru meant well by bringing up BBI but we let him down. This time around, we must support our candidate whether a lady or a gentleman," former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu said.
Some leaders at the Limuru meeting declared community’s direction will be decided by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
