Two people were killed by a panga wielding gang in Migori town on Wednesday night.

Three men attacked and killed a security guard and a worker at Maranatha Faith Assemblies Church at around 1am.

Migori town residents have called on police to beef up security after the incident.

Suna West police boss Elizabeth Wakuloba said the security guard died instantly as the church goer, who was identified to be a student, died while receiving treatment at the Migori County Referral Hospital.

"The student sustained deep cuts and died in hospital," Wakuloba said, adding that they have launched investigations into the attack.

The attackers stole six microphones and an amplifier.

The amplifier, which had been dropped by the road side by the trio, was recovered.

The attacks have raised concern as three security guards had lost their lives within a span of one month.

About a week ago, a security guard was killed and his eyes gouged out at Ombo in Migori town.

Another security guard is still nursing injuries at the Migori County Referral Hospital after he was attacked by a panga wielding gang.

“The gang has been targeting electronic devices in the past three months. They break into homes and business premises where they make away with music systems and televisions,” Emily Otieno, a trader said.

Otieno said traders have chosen to invest in security or close their premises early for fear of the attacks.

“We urge security agencies to have intense patrols around the town to protect us from the gang,” he said.

Governor Ochillo Ayacko has called on the public to help police with information that can help tackle the insecurity.

He spoke in Migori town on Thursday.

“We won’t continue to lose innocent lives. We have eyes and ears and we should help police with information to tackle insecurity,” Ayacko said.

He said as elected leaders in Migori, they will work with the public and administrators to tackle the high cases of insecurity in the county.
