Nyamira MCAs took an oath of office on Monday to embark on their duties to serve the electorates.

35 members- both elected and nominated to the county assembly- were sworn in by acting clerk Duke Onyari before they embarked on the election of the speaker.

Family members who escorted the MCAs were followed the House proceedings from a tent outside the County assembly.

There was a disagreement between clerk Duke Onyari and a section of MCAs before the commencement of the exercise of electing the speaker when Ekerenyo MCA Thaddeus Nyabaro disagreed with Onyari who had requested the house to adjourn for 10 minutes before they would resume to the next business.

The MCA said the break would create room for lobbying and other corrupt activities ahead of the important exercise.

"It is better for you honorable clerk to inform us whether it is your office that is not prepared or what is it.

The 29 minutes consultation break will enhance lobbying amongst ourselves. With this, we will not be guaranteed honesty in the next exercise," Nyabaro said.

His sentiments were supported by Township MCA Duke Masira who said the election of the speaker exercise should be carried out once and for all to allow MCAs to celebrate with their families who were waiting outside.

"We do not have any reason to consult. What are we consulting? Remember our family members are waiting outside and we need to finish up this business and go celebrate with them," Masira said.

The clerk, however, urged the MCAs to be patient as his office prepares for the election of the speaker.

"We beg for your indulgence for a few minutes as we organise the floor for the election of the speaker. We wanted a few minutes so that we can be prepared for this exercise," Onyari said.
