Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda has criticised a section of Kisii leaders who visited President-elect William Ruto on Friday, terming them opportunists.
Jhanda said the leaders, who were led by former Kisii Governor James Ongwae, should not expect to reap where they did not sow.
“The people who campaigned for William Ruto will have a big say in his government, not self-seekers who fought us during the campaigns. Instead of rushing to see the President-elect, they should have visited their party leader Raila Odinga who is yet to heal from the loss,” the UDA lawmaker said.
He also castigated politician Eliud Owalo for leading the delegation to Ruto.
“If the leaders meant well, they should have informed us as elected leaders we accompany them to see the President-elect. Some of the leaders seriously fought Ruto during campaigns,” Jhanda said.
He asked the politicians who lost in the last general election to retire from active politics.
“There is a generational change in Kisii and Nyamira counties. It’s time for fresh leadership. Those who have been around for decades should now take a back seat. They have done their part, let them give us space to work,” Jhanda said.
The Friday morning meeting in Karen was attended by former MPs Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North), Manson Nyamweya (South Mugirango), Zadock Ogutu (Bomachoge Borabu), Stephen Manoti (Bobasi), former Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong’era and former Transport CAS Chris Obure.
Ongwae said they had insightful discussions with the President-elect.
"We have had a fruitful meeting with the President-elect and told him that we are ready to work with him and support his government,” he said.
