Scholars from Western Kenya has congratulated President-elect William Ruto on his win.
The Western Scholars Organisation in their congratulatory message said Ruto is an icon of excellence and a motivation to every Kenyan, adding that their support for Ruto was motivated by his position on matters of great interest to the region under Kenya Kwanza’s bottom-up economic model.
“We affirm our support to the President-elect, and the entire team including Musalia Mudavadi, and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula, our sons from Western Kenya,” read a statement signed by group chairman Prof Sammy Kubasu.
The scholars expressed optimism that the new regime will revive restarted industries in the region including troubled Mumias Sugar Company, struggling Nzoia Sugar Company and Webuye Pan-paper.
“His vision and mission of reviving the stalled industries will go a long way in boosting employment, income and development of the region,” the statement read.
They urged Ruto to polish and review CBC curriculum through involvement of all stakeholders.
They said the new regime should address issues of increasing funding at all sectors of education, employment of additional staff to cater for the staffing shortage and improvement of infrastructure in schools, colleges and universities including construction of additional schools, colleges, TVETS and universities.
Kenya Kwanza promised during their campaigns that they will scrap the CBC education system if they won power.
They urged the new administration to promote cottage industry through value addition such as pottery and basketry in Kakamega and sim sim in Busia is a novel idea.
They also urged for promotion of eco-tourism in Western Kenya which Kenya Kwanza government should undertake as an avenue of minimising poverty in the region.
They asked the new regime to commit to implementation of all stalled CBAs in universities and colleges to help solve perpetual strikes in learning institutions.
“We have total confidence that the President -elect and his team will be able to address the desires of scholars in Western region and the country at large. We guarantee our total support as we have done during the just concluded presidential campaigns,” the statement reads.
