Bonchari political leaders have inked a deal to work together for the common good of the constituency.

MP Charles Onchoke said there are voids in the region's development, which can only be filled by leaders that are deliberate in putting their ego and self interests aside for the common good of the electorate.

Onchoke who led the leaders spoke at Laserena Hotel in Kisii on Monday.

He was flanked by newly elected MCAs from the four wards in the constituency.

"The aim is to ensure rural residents get the feel of development be it from the county or national government," Onchoke said.

Youth unemployment, water scarcity and bad roads are some of the challenges awaiting the new leadership.

Bogiakumu MCA Ishmael Matundura said the constituency has lagged due to lack of unity of purpose among past leaders.

"We laud our new MP for this initiative, it definitely marks a start of his leadership," he said.

Bomariba MCA Dismas Onsombi said they will undertake development without discrimination.

"We are not going to dish development on the basis of who voted overwhelmingly for us or not. All of them are our people," he said.

Onsombi said they have agreed to engage development partners and the government to ensure they meet the development needs of the community.

Matundura further urged Governor Simba Arati to address regional unemployment disparities in the county.

He said certain regions like Bonchari got a raw deal in the outgoing regime.

"Even as we congratulate him on his victory, we want him to be alive to the fact that the past regime had given us a raw deal.

"It is sad that only about 100 people from Bonchari got jobs among 6,000 staff who work at the devolved unit," Matundura said.

The legislator said they will meet the governor to raise the concerns with him.

"We have thousands of deserving youth who also need jobs but were locked out of the system because of nepotism and cronyism, it is sad," he said.

Onchoke said as MPs their first agenda is to wrestle back the Constituency Development Fund, which the Supreme Court declared illegal.

"This is not the moment to divorce a vital fund like CDF from the mwananchi.

"All along it has played a pivotal role in leveraging and improving the lives of the common man and students from needy families. We can't drop the ball now," he said.
