Two people, one of them a child, were found murdered in different parts of Kisii county.
The body of the minor, a PP2 grader at Amasago Primary School in Keumbu, Nyaribari Chache, was discovered lying prostrate on Friday near a dais in the school's playing field.
It had a rope tied round his neck, according to Riondong'a assistant chief Ben Ochungu.
There was a cut in the boy's neck signaling a possible attack by an assailant, the administrator said.

He had not reported to class by the time his lifeless body was discovered by fellow learners during break time Friday.
Elsewhere, police in Kitutu Chache South, are probing the murder of an elderly man in Mwamosioma.
Samuel Mose aka Kimia was attacked on Saturday morning with a fork jembe. Elvis Omwenga, 26, has been accused of killing the old man.
The deceased sustained serious injuries to the body and was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have opened investigations into both killings.
Last week, police said a teacher in Kisii's Milimani estate fled shortly after allegedly killing his son over Sh20 theft.
The body of the 11-year-old Grade 5 pupil at Mercy Junior Academy in Mwembe, Nyaribari Chache, was discovered dumped on a banana farm on Wednesday morning by villagers.
The boy had bruises on his back and feet.
Local administrator Joseph Ondande said they suspected the teacher used a tortilla roller, wooden bars and a whip to beat the minor.
"The initial information gleaned from the mother is that some money in the house was lost and the father suspected the boy had stolen. He ended up beating the boy," he said.
The corporal punishment, he added, may have affected his vital body organs.
The mother said the boy had been living with his grandmother and returned home on Monday evening.
She showed the crude implements her husband is suspected to have used to beat their son.
