Nyamira governor, senator and woman rep retain seats

Nyaribo urges his competitors to join him in developing the county.

Nyamira governor, senator and woman representative have retained their seats.

Governor Amos Nyaribo of UPA successfully defended his seat after garnering 82,090 votes against UDA’s Walter Nyambati who got 49,281.

The Tuesday polls results were announced by county IEBC returning officer Anthony Njoroge at at Kebirigo Boys secondary School tallying centre.

In the 2017 election, Nyambati, who was then in Jubilee, ran for governor but lost to former Governor John Nyagarama (now deceased) of ODM. Nyaribo was at the time Nyagarama's deputy.

Nyaribo took over as governor two years ago after Nyagarama's death. Nyagarama was the first Nyamira governor since 2013.

Nyaribo urged his competitors to join him in developing the county.

“We have come a long way but this far we thank God, our supporters and residents of Nyamira for having confidence in us. It is now official that there is leadership and we call upon our brothers who were facing us in this tough contest to come and join us in making Nyamira a better place,” he said.

Senator Okong’o Omogeni has also retained his seat after garnering 96,432 votes against UDA’s Mose Nyambega who got 43,866 votes. Adams Mochenwa of DP was third with 22,235 votes.

Omogeni said the county requires his services since he has a lot of experience.

“I am glad that our residents have recognised my efforts and awarded me another term to serve them as senator. With the experience I have garnered in the recent past, I promise to do my best in representing my people. Please support me,” he said.

Jubilee’s Jerusha Momanyi, who is the incumbent woman rep, was re-elected after she garnered 84,843, votes against Emily Nyagarama who got 72,434 votes.
