The Homa Bay gubernatorial race between candidates Gladys Wanga and Evans Kidero is neck to neck.

The race is to succeed Governor Cyprian Awiti who is serving his second and final term in office.

Resident Slim Felix said the race between Wanga and Kidero is tight and difficult to know who will eventually emerge the winner. Mark Rabudi of UDA is also in the governor race.

“The provisional results from polling stations show there is none with an out-right lead. We’re awaiting the outcome from the county IEBC returning officer,” Felix said.

Provisional results show Kidero leads in some polling stations in Homa Bay town, Ndhiwa, Suba North and Suba South constituencies while Wanga is leading in a number of polling stations in Karachuonyo, Kasipul and Kabondo Kasipul constituencies.

Homa Bay has eight constituencies with 551,071 registered voters. Other constituencies are Rangwe and Suba South.

Currently, tallying of votes from polling stations is still going on at constituency tallying centres. The county has 1,228 polling satiations.

Homa Bay IEBC returning officer Fredrick Apopa said they will soon announce the results after receiving them from constituencies.

“We’re monitoring activities at the constituency tallying centres. We’ll soon start announcing results for the governor seat,” Apopa said.

The provisional results however show that a majority of ODM candidates for parliamentary seats are leading and likely to win.

ODM is the dominant party in Homa Bay and many residents support the candidature of Raila Odinga who is the Azimio-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate.

However, residents of Homa Bay are keeping calm as IEBC officials continue to tally results.

Many of the residents have their eyes glued on television sets and smart-phones to keep track of the results transmission.
