Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong'i has exuded confidence he will recapture his seat.

Tong'i said he decided to defend his so that he can complete projects he initiated.

He spoke at Amariba Primary School polling station where he cast his vote.

He said he was impressed with voter turnout on a number of polling stations.

Among the stations the Star visited include Nambaine tea buying centre, Nyabioto Primary, Amariba Primary and Nyangogwa tea buying centre.

A spot check by this reporter established that majority of those on queues were the elderly.

Tong'i appealed to the youth not wait until the last minute to start rushing to polling stations.

"I am urging our youth to use the opportunity to elect a leader who has their interest at heart," Tong'i said.

"They should not wait up to the last minute to start rushing to polling stations," he added.

Many of the polling centres opened doors for voters at 6am.
