Teachers union officials in Siaya on Monday asked all tutors to vote for Senator James Orengo’s governor bid.

The leaders of the Kenya National Union of Teachers and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers said teachers' interests will be safe in Orengo’s administration.

Speaking during Orengo’s manifesto launch at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Siaya Kuppet executive secretary Sam Opondo and chairman Alex Dunga endorsed the ODM six-piece voting pattern.

“Our interests have been captured in Orengo’s manifesto,” Dunga said.

Knut secretary general Collins Oyuu called on teachers in Siaya to campaign for Orengo because his manifesto is promising to address their plight.

“I am impressed by Orengo’s agenda on the provision of quality education and training. I wish to call upon all teachers in Siaya to campaign for him and the ODM six-piece voting pattern,” Oyuu said.

He said schools, where teachers work, are extensions of society. He urged them to use the opportunity to help instal the ODM brigade in power.

He said Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has a plan for teachers, hence the need to elect him and his team.

“Raila’s manifesto has emphasised education, especially employment of teachers. Let us vote for him,” Oyuu said.

He said all Kenyan teachers have vowed to elect Raila and urged those in Siaya not to disappoint.

“Orengo’s manifesto shows that his administration intends to recruit more ECD teachers, build ECD or child care centres and village polytechnics, and equip ECD centres with learning materials and play equipment,” he said

“His administration plans to support the enrolment of any idle youth for vocational training, introduce e-learning and ICT in education and improve physical infrastructure in schools.”
