ODM is still the most popular party in Nyamira and will win the majority of seats in next month's election, an MP candidate has said.

Kitutu Masaba ODM MP candidate Clive Gisairo said on Monday the party will capture the seats of governor, woman representative, senator and MCAs.

Speaking during an interview, he said party candidates have an advantage since ODM is popular in Kisii and Nyamira.

“You cannot ignore ODM at all, since it is the most popular party in our region. We aim to deliver the majority of seats during the August general election,” Gisairo said.

“Apart from Kitutu Masaba, the entire Nyamira has always supported ODM. We are drumming up support for the party so it can maintain its popularity in the region.”

He spoke a few days after ODM leader Raila Odinga visited the region, where he urged Nyamira residents to rally behind his presidential bid.

Raila assured residents that his government will be inclusive and their basic needs will be catered to.

“There are several development requests you have made that are geared towards improving your livelihood and I promise that I will ensure that those requests are implemented to make Nyamira a better place to live and invest in,” the ODM leader said.

"I will ensure that education will be free from primary to tertiary level so that all schoolchildren, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds, get an opportunity to pursue career courses of their choice."

Raila further guaranteed that if elected, he would assist youth in the boda boda industry, the micro, small and medium enterprises and jua kali traders to access loans at manageable interest rates.

The ODM chief said they will be given a repayment period of seven years.
