Former Kisumu county Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has been cleared by IEBC to vie for the county women's Representative position.

Ruth was among three others that were cleared by the commission to fight it out for the seat.

Ruth will be vying for the seat on the ODM party ticket.

Others are Former Kisumu tourism executive in the last regime Rose Kisia, who is vying fur the seat as an independent candidate, Valentine Anyango Otieno, MDG party and Philgona Ayugi on the UDA ticket.

They all want to replace incumbent Rosa Buyu.

Buyu, who defeated Rose Nyamunga (now a nominated senator) in 2017, has shifted her political interest to the Kisumu West parliamentary seat.

She wants to unseat incumbent MP Olago Aluoch, who defeated her in 2013.

The county Returning Officer Solomon Mudanya noted that the four are the only candidates who have been cleared to run for the seat.

"We had cleared Kisia, Valentine, Ruth and now evening we have just finalized with Philgona as candidates for the women representative positions," he told the media.

However, Ruth told the media that she was looking forward to being cleared by IEBC and now they will start their campaigns across the county.

" We are going to do a thorough campaign crisscrossing the county, moving door to door to ensure that come August, the victory is ours," she said.

She also urged for peaceful campaigns across from all the politicians.

Ayugi who is vying on UDA, however, said it was a great day for her and remained confident that she will also clinch the seat.

"Am a Christian and I want to urge my opponent to ensure that we maintain peace during this entire campaign period," she added.
