Migori governor Okoth Obado’s wife Hellen has declared her interest to vie as the third county woman representative in the August 9 polls.
Addressing the press over the phone on Friday, Hellen confirmed that she will vie for the seat.
“It is true that I have declared interest for the Woman Representative seat, this is a public seat where the public and voters decide through the ballot and I will seek their mandate,” Hellen said.
Hellen said she will vie on an Independent ticket.
“...and I am yet to pick my symbol for the ballot, but I have started the process of being cleared by the electoral body,” she said.
Helen shunned People Democratic Party that is associated with Obado.
Obado and Hellen have been in a joint fixture in his campaigns from 2007 elections.
During this period, She has been key in voter and grass root mobilisation for Obado's governor bid.
Her entry into the race has ruffled the Woman Representative race and county politics.
Hellen will face off with Lillian Akugo, who seeks the same seat on Jubilee Party ticket and Migori Woman Representative Dennitah Ghati who was cleared to vie on an ODM ticket.
Also in the race are; Former radio journalist Josephine Sirega and business lady Fatuma Mohammed on Independent tickets.
“We welcome her to the race, we will show her that families will never decide the destiny of Migori. We will take her to task with the voters on the campaign trail,” Sirega said.
