Kisumu county youth have been urged to come out in large numbers and participate in the ongoing police recruitment.

The exercise will be carried out in Kisumu on March 24.

Alice Otwala, the Vice-Chair National Police Service Commission (NSPC) while in Kisumu, said they want to inform the public that the recruitment exercise will be free from corruption and urged eligible youths to participate.

Otwala noted that the commission has rolled out a pre-recruitment awareness campaign across the country to help sanitize the exercise from corrupt cartels.

The Government through the (NPSC) has announced 5000 positions in the ongoing nationwide recruitment.

"We are engaging the youths to empower themselves by knowing exactly what their rights are and what they need to look for in preparation for the recruitment exercise."

According to the Vice-Chair, the government uses approximately Sh 1 million in the training of one police officer, hence, investing such an amount on a corrupt person would be a waste of resources that would have greatly benefited the country since the trainee would be probably working for selfish gains.

“We are here in Kisumu to urge the public those eligible to come out in large numbers and be part of the exercise”.

She however dismissed claims that the NPS is a career that absorbs the youth who are indiscipline with immoral characters.

“Police profession is a noble career that recruits morally upright individuals who are trained to take charge of the security sector of the country”.

She further added, “We would like the good young people to join and provide for our security. Police is a dignified and professional career. This time, we want to turn around that negative perception about this sector”.
